British Rally Championship Cadet Class driver Tom Williams – the godson of the late Richard Burns – will compete at World Rally Championship level outside of Britain for the first time when he tackles Rally Finland later this month.
The son of David Williams – who was Burns’ mentor through the early part of his career – has been competing in the BRC for two seasons.
He will now contest his first-ever WRC round outside of Britain when he enters Rally Finland’s RC4 division in his Ford Fiesta R2. Phil Hall will co-drive for him.
“We’ve always had it in mind to do it, we were going to do it last year but we decided it would be too big a step up,” said Williams.
“I’ve got Phil Hall with me, we wanted to use his experience of the event, it’s a vital rally for notes and someone who has experience there is a big help.”
BRC regular Williams suffered clutch failure at last weekend’s Nicky Grist Stages 100 and sits second in the Cadet standings.
