Award winner Ticktum secures 2018 F3 deal

Macau Grand Prix and McLaren Autosport BRDC Award winner Dan Ticktum will contest the European Formula 3 Championship next season with Motopark.

Ticktum finished seventh in the Formula Renault Eurocup with series newcomer Arden this year, then beat 2017 European F3 champion Lando Norris to victory in Macau with Timo Rumpfkeil’s Motopark squad.

The 18-year-old also scored a podium in one of his three GP3 outings with DAMS, but his simulator role with Red Bull means he cannot contest the Formula 1 support series in 2018.

“I can’t do GP3 because I’m needed in simulator support,” Ticktum told MN‘s sister title Autosport.

“It’s like having a third car at F1 weekends because the simulator is really good now.

“I love the F3 car and Timo was one of those guys who always trusted in me.

“He’s seen some wonderful drivers, like Valtteri Bottas, and he was ringing me and wanted me.”

Ticktum agreed that his Macau and Award successes would put the spotlight on him in 2018.

“I’ll have a lot to live up to at Motopark next year,” he added.

“We’ll have to assess the goals once we’ve done some testing. I’ll still be a rookie but right now I’d love to be winning.

“I think it is winnable.”

Motopark ran Joel Eriksson to seven wins and second overall in European F3 this year.
