Ahmed leads Carlin 1-2 in rain shortened race

Enaam Ahmed claimed his ninth win of the BRDC British Formula 3 season in a race red flagged by heavy rain at Brands Hatch.

The Carlin driver held a controlling lead after starting from pole when rain started to hit the GP circuit at just over half distance, causing his team-mate Cameron Das and Fortec’s Ben Hingeley to go off into the barriers at Paddock Hill Bend bringing out the safety car.

As the rain intensified the red flag was shown, with Ahmed taking victory ahead of team-mate James Pull and Lanan Racing’s Toby Sowery.

Pull achieved what he described as “one of the best overtaking moves of my life” to reclaim second place from Hingeley around the outside of Hawthorns on lap two and was closing in on championship leader Ahmed before the race stoppage – once again denying him his first win of the season.

Callan O’Keeffe and Jordan Cane for Douglas Motorsport claimed fourth and fifth respectively with Jeremy Wahome in the Chris Dittmann run car sixth.

Nicolai Kjaergaard, who had gone into the gravel at Paddock Hill when the rain hit and damaged his front-wing, salvaged seventh from Krishnaraaj Mahadik, Chase Owen and Manuel Maldonado.
