Bogie to skip Nicky Grist Stages

British Rally Championship frontrunner David Bogie won’t start the Nicky Grist Stages this weekend after his crash last time out in Ypres.

The 2011 BRC champion and RSAC Scottish Rally winner this year crashed on SS2 of the Belgium event after a misunderstanding in his pacenotes, which effectively ended any chance he had of challenging for the BRC championship.

The CA1 Team that prepares Bogie’s Fabia R5 could have had a new shell for the car from Skoda by Monday this week, but that would have left a tight turnaround before the Nicky Grist with the team scheduled to test on Thursday.

“I think it would be unfair to ask the lads to work around the clock to get it done,” said Bogie. “I go on holiday on the Wednesday after the Nicky Grist, so I think it’s better if I stay and keep on top of work before I go away for two weeks.”

BRC frontrunner Bogie will skip the next round

The Dumfries driver has confirmed he will take on select events for the rest of the season. He also has a Millington-engined Ford Escort Mk2.

“When I come back I’ll sit down and have a look as there’s other events I’d like to do, and make a plan,” he said. “I went through the dates in the calendar and I could be rallying every weekend if I want too. I’ll see a mix of Tarmac and gravel and of course some events in the Escort too.”

Motorsport News understands Marty McCormack, who is sixth in the BRC standings, one point and two places behind Bogie, was trying to hire a car to allow him to do the event after he crashed his Fabia R5, also on SS2 of Ypres due to a mistake in the pacenotes.

Desi Henry, who has done the BRC this year in a Fabia R5, will do the Sligo Stages asphalt rally in Ireland on the Sunday, instead of the Nicky Grist Stages.
